If you're fitting accessories to a BYD Shark 6, the centre console is usually the first thing that has to come apart. Brake controllers, switch panels, USB and 12V outlets, dash cams and extra wiring runs through the cabin all mean getting in behind this trim.
The Shark 6 is still new, and the clips are tight, so it pays to know where everything is before you start pulling. We filmed a quick guide showing exactly how some of it comes apart.
Step-by-step
1. Remove the side trim panel.
The side trim panel on the console hand holds is held in by clips only, with no screws. Grip it firmly and pull it straight out from the console.
2. Know where the clips are.
The video shows where each clip sits on the panel. Pull near the clips rather than from the middle of the panels so you don't flex or crack the trims.
3. Remove the hand hold.
With the trim panel off, the hand hold fasteners are exposed. There are three 10mm headed bolts at the base of the bracket and two Phillips head screws. Undo these and lift the hand hold away from the console.
4. Unclip the lower dash trim.
Next, unclip the lower dash trim and vents at the front of the console. It's also held by clips, so work it free evenly.
5. Remove the upper console screws.
With the trims off, you'll see the screws holding the upper console panel along the top and sides. Undo these with a screwdriver.
6. Lift out the upper console panel.
The upper panel, with the wireless charger and switch bank, can now be lifted up and out. Take it slowly so you don't strain the wiring behind it.
Tips
- Pull firmly and evenly. The clips are very tight on a new vehicle. Steady, even pressure near the clip points is better than yanking one corner.
- Keep your screws together so reassembly is quick.
- Check your warranty terms before modifying a new vehicle.
